KNEB History
  • 1948

    Platte Valley Broadcasting Corporation owned by Russel Stewart, Byron Joachim and John R. Jirdon began KNEB with 500 watts and non-directional operation during daylight hours only.

  • 1951

    Directional operation was installed, and the station operated 24 hours a day.

  • 1960

    KNEB FM went on the air on Christmas Day as the first FM station in the Panhandle.

  • 1969

    The station was sold to Scottsbluff Broadcasting Corp. owned by George Haskell, Wayne McIntosh and Leslie Proctor.

  • 1972

    KNEB FM began broadcasting in stereo.

  • 1979

    The station was sold to Panhandle Broadcasting, owned by the Gladys Seaton family of Hastings.

  • 1981

    FM power was increased to 100,000 watts.

  • 1984

    The station was sold to Nebraska Rural Radio Association

  • 1989

    Marty Martinson became KNEB's new station manager.

  • 1998

    KNEB celebrates 50 years on the air.

  • 2003

    New KNEB AM Towers are erected South of Gering, and old towers taken down.

  • 2003

    In August, Leslie Proctor signs off at the old location and KNEB starts broadcasting from their present studios at 1928 East Portal Place in Scottsbluff. KNEB AM increases to 5,000 watts.
