Its been awhile....

Its the beginning of March, and its been awhile since we've had a chance to chat. In the last month, there's been few milestones that have occurred in my life in that time.

On February 18th, I celebrated 30 years on this Earth. I don't feel any older, but definately felt like I made it to a milestone. I remember few years ago when the thought of 30 made me shrug, like I was actually going to make it there. I made a few poor choices in life, sometimes dangerous. I won't go into detail, but I will say that I am thankful for family, and my Wife for helping me out.

In conjunction with the celebration of my 30th, my Wife and I went to Omaha so she could attend training for her new business venture. She is selling purses at home parties. So far after three shows she's very happy and finding it very fun. She already parties booked into July!

While we were in the East, we attended a first for both of us. We have attend Nebraska Football games for years, but never a Basketball game. In fact, this was a Ladies' game, as the NU women played our friends from Boulder. It was fun. Colorado kept throwing treys at us, but Connie Yori's crew kept them at bay the entire game, winning 89-73.

Finally, the third milestone is actually a tie-in to #2. After bringing home my Wife's inventory, we realized we hit the inevitable. We needed a new car.  So, we searched the web and the local dealers, and settled on a 2008 Chevy Uplander van. We wanted a Suburban, but couldn't find one in the region that either met our price and options. So, we gave a call to a family member, and he agreed this car was  a good fit for us. It has lots of room, good options on it, and for me, the price. Thanks Dave!

So now that I'm thirty, my Wife is outfitted with a good vehicle and bookings, 2010 and year number thirty looks pretty good!!!

By the way, for all of that wished me glad tidings for my birthday, I say Thank You!

Seeing you on the radio, Paul

The President will not be juror number 9
Posted by Paul Callenius e-mail pcallenius@kneb.com on Jan 25 at 11:54 AM

Well, not even the even the President is immune from getting called for jury duty.

President Barack Obama was recently summoned to serve for jury duty in the Bridgeview court near Chicago. I think he has a pretty good explanation for being excused.

I was once called for jury duty, Federal Jury duty in Lincoln. It happened just as I moved here to Scottsbluff from my old home in Geneva ten years ago. I filled out the card, gave my explanation, then called the Court a few days later. They excused me, because of the hardship of travel. The US Government has to pay a lot of bills, and wouldn't want to pay my mileage and lodging expenses!

I've never been called to jury duty on the local level, but I know people who have, and in fact I know two people who have been called several times. The names are pulled at random from local records, and so its literally the luck (or un-luck) of the draw if you get picked.

Have you ever been called? Answer my poll below and lets see what the unofficial results are!

Do you FarmVille?
Posted by Paul Callenius e-mail pcallenius@kneb.com on Jan 10 at 01:54 AM

Over the last few months i've been getting into Facebook. Sorry I may be a Johnny-Come-Lately but I am enjoying it. I have reconnected with former classmates and friends I haven't seen or talked to in years. One other part of it i'm getting into is the game FarmVill. I have enjoyed growing crops taking care of animals. Of course the goal is to gain as much money and expand it as best you can. So far i've grown squash, wheat, watermellons& many other crops. I have a dairy, chicken coop, and sheep.

Also I just bought a tractor & harvestor to help me take care of my expanding farming empire.

So, i want to know if YOU FarmVille. Vote now in my poll and we'll see how the results come out.

Wanted: Cornhusker musicians (an update)

With the wintry weather that hit Nebraska, the University decided not to send the marching band to San Diego for the Holiday Bowl due to poor roads.

So, the local San Diego-area UNL alumni are looking to put together their own band to fill in! Here's more information from the San Diego Union-Tribune:

Update: This story came from the Lincoln Journal-Star. Hope these kids will make us proud!!

Bio
Hi, I'm Paul Callenius, and work the night shift here at KNEB. Yes, they trust me to run things when everybody else goes home! I'm originally from Geneva, Nebraska (Go Panthers!), coming to Scottsbluff in 1999. My wife Wendi & I live on a farm just outside the city limits. We share the place with two dogs, one cat, and eight ponies. I think they let us live there only because we pay the bills. Outside of keeping things humming here at the station, I help my family run the local 4-H dog club, plus I'm involved with various church activites, and my old college tech club. Keep it tuned to 94.1, Monday-Saturday night from 6 pm -1 am, and we'll have a great time!
