Heart for the Heartland is a new program sponsored by KNEB and the Star-Herald to help Pack the Pantry and meet the needs of those who come to Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) for help.
With the economic hard times there has been a dramatic increase in those needing help! The needs range from food to feed the family, to shelter and so much more!
Roy Lawton with Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska says he is pleased with the success of the "Heart for the Heartland" campaign. During the ten day effort to fill the organization's food pantry, 2,285 pounds and $154 in cash was collected.
Lawton says with a 20% increase in demand for food pantry supplies due to the difficult economy, Lawton says donations are appreciated anytime during the year.
Lawton says the monetary donations will be used to assist people who may have needs other than simply with food. Lawton says using the three grocery stores..... Plaza Foods, Family Thrift Center and Safeway.... as drop off points worked well. Sponsors KNEB and the Star-Herald also collected donations during the campaign.
