Governors Discuss Energy Resources
Published Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 04:50 AM
Governors met in Philadelphia over the weekend to discuss matters of mutual importance. When the discussion turned to energy it was obvious there were about as many viewpoints as there were governors. In the middle of discussion stood Texas Governor Rick Perry. It was Perry who requested EPA cut in half the RFS mandate. But Perry is getting no support from other governors. No other governors and only a few Republican lawmakers have joined Perry’s quest. Still, some Governors admit they don’t like the mandate.

Most Governors are not talking about replacing corn in ethanol production so much as supplementing corn in ethanol production. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty said - we recognize that this has to now move to phase two. He says biofuels will be a big part of the nation's energy future but the type of biofuels will evolve and change.

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania says his state - could be to cellulosic ethanol what Iowa was to corn-based ethanol. Pennsylvania has a new state law that will require a minimum of a billion gallons of fuel annually pumped in Pennsylvania come from renewable fuels.
