Tyson Responds to R-CALF, Not Meeting Request
Published Wednesday, July 01, 2009 at 05:30 AM
Tyson Foods Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs Archie Schaffer told R-CALF USA Monday - in response to R-CALF’s request that Tyson withdraw its action against rancher Herman Schumacher - the company intends to donate the proceeds taken from Schumacher to local food banks in South Dakota.
R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard says only a multibillion dollar company like Tyson could create a strategy like this to reverse its tarnished image. He says Tyson rejected the opportunity to demonstrate it could rise to meet a higher moral standard. Bullard believes the clash between cattle producers and Tyson would have been avoided if USDA hadn’t failed to properly enforce the Packers and Stockyards Act for more than a decade.
