In the National Western Stock Show Catch A Calf contest Nebraska youth take top honors. This year 36 participants from Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska were judged on their project interview their showmanship skills as well as a live evaluation of their steers.
And overall the top two individuals are from Nebraska.
The 2010 Grand Champion Catch - A- Calf top finisher is Aksel Wiseman of Hershey . Finishing second overall is Emilee Elwood of Gordon. In the interview portion, Emilee won first place and Aksel finished 4th. In their showmanship classes Aksel finished first and Emilee was second. Then in the live evaluation Aksel's steer "Earl" topped his class while Emilee's steer "Denver" was 4th place.
Also representing Nebraska were Ryan Schmidt of Minatare and Mitchell Mansfield of Chadron.
Andrea Miller, National Western Scholarship Cordinator says this year for the first time the Grand and Reserve Champion Catch A Calves will sell in the Junior Livestock Auction on Friday, January 22nd in the Beef Palace Auction Arena at 6:30pm MT.
The National Western Stock Show Sale is reserved for the very best with only the top 90 animals in the junior show be sold in the auction. The entire sale will also be webcast online at www.9news.com.
