USDA Releases Highly Anticipated Prospective Plantings Report Monday
Published Friday, March 28, 2008 at 04:39 AM

USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service will release the prospective plantings report on Monday. Chief of the NASS Crops Branch Jeff Geuder (GUY-der) says a lot of people want to see what will happen with corn. Purdue Extension Ag Economist Chris Hurt says the report will suggest producers will plant less corn - about 88-million acres - down six-percent from last year. He says that may be bullish to corn. Hurt expects a 10-percent increase in soybean acreage to 70-million acres. Analysts are also expecting an increase in spring wheat acres due to high prices.
