Morrill, Scotts Bluff and Box Butte County Farm Bureau’s are donating 12 tons of hay for the welfare of the horses rescued from the 3-strikes Ranch near Alliance. Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation also contributed to the hay donation.
“We are appalled at the fact that this kind of neglect took place,” Jeff Metz, a rancher and member of the Morrill County Farm Bureau said April 25. “Locally, we wanted to do something. We heard they needed hay so that was the best way we knew to help.”
The hay will be delivered to the Morrill County Fairgrounds in Bridgeport April 25 at 3:00pm.
It is important that Nebraskans understand that animal neglect is not acceptable and not tolerated in ranching and farming communities.
“I hope people remember that this instance of neglect is not reflective of the care and commitment to animals demonstrated by Nebraska farmers and ranchers,” Metz said.
The horses are expected to be at the fairgrounds for up to two weeks and additional feed is needed to care for the animals.
“We want to help out in some way to make a difficult situation better,” Metz said.
