Recent Reports Thrill Nation’s Corn Growers
Published Wednesday, July 01, 2009 at 05:24 AM
Given planting conditions - the National Corn Growers Association didn’t expect to see such a large number of acres planted to corn. They also didn’t expect the crop’s condition would be far superior to 2008. The most recent report on crop condition said 72-percent of the U.S. corn crop was in good or excellent condition. That compares to 61-percent in 2008. And though Tuesday’s acreage report doesn’t discuss yields - a June estimate of 153.4-bushels per acre can mean the second-highest harvest ever at nearly 12.3-billion bushels. NCGA President Bob Dickey says it’s an exciting time for growers. He says NCGA is looking forward to a great year where growers can meet all needs for food, feed, fuel and fiber.
