Meat facility in Gering now federally inspected
Published Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 05:55 AM
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ When federal prosecutors filed a lawsuit against Marky's Meat Market in Gering earlier this fall, Mark Gies (gees) worried about what might happen to his business. But the lawsuit, which was settled earlier this month, actually helped Gies' business. Marky's Meat Market in Gering is now in compliance with federal inspection laws, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture has assigned an inspector to the business. So Gies will be able to continue selling sausages and other meat products to restaurants. Plus, the publicity from the lawsuit attracted a few new customers to the business. Gies says everything worked out pretty good. And throughout the dispute over meat inspection rules, no one questioned the quality or safety of the meat Gies sells. Gies' business buys meat from federally inspected meat plants, processes it further and sells it to consumers and restaurants.
