Biodiesel Pump Labels Coming
Published Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 04:46 AM
Effective December 16th, the Federal Trade Commission will require that all retail biodiesel pumps selling more than a five-percent blend of biodiesel display a label. But Doug Whitehead, Director of Operations for the National Biodiesel Board, hopes operators will do more than just comply with the law. He encourages them to market biodiesel to consumers and boost demand.

One of the approved labels is for blends between 5 and 20 percent and the second is for B100 - 100 percent biodiesel. Under the federal ruling, blends of 5 percent and lower do not require special labeling. The present standard for fuel in America includes up to 5 percent biodiesel in the standard for petroleum diesel, D975.

Also, a recent change in law ensures that franchises can’t prohibit franchisees from selling biofuels. Jess Hewitt, chairman of the NBB Marketing Committee says - this has been a critical step in ensuring that petroleum marketers have the power to make their own business decisions and respond to market demand for biodiesel.
