Cost of Hunger Reviewed by Ag Subcommittee
Published Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 04:57 AM
Given the estimation hunger costs 90-billion dollars each year - House Ag Subcommittee Chairman Joe Baca says it’s important to proactively search for a solution. That’s why he led a hearing to review the short and long-term costs of hunger in America Wednesday. According to Baca - hunger affects the health of more than 35-million Americans classified as food insecure - as well as the health of local economies and communities. Medical doctors, researchers and advocates testified on how the effects of hunger spill into other areas of society and government policy. Subcommittee Ranking Member Charles Boustany says members heard the significant steps made to end hunger - as well as the work remaining.
