Sign-up period for conservation program extended
Published Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 01:23 PM
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Landowners in the Middle Republican watershed will have two additional weeks to apply for a federal conservation program. The sign-up period for the Conservation Security Program will end on May 30th in portions of Phelps, Harlan, Franklin, Kearney, Webster, Nuckolls and Thayer counties in south-central Nebraska. The deadline was originally May 16th, but was extended because of recent weather conditions. Under the Conservation Security Program, landowners receive financial incentives for using conservation practices. Soil and water quality are the primary focus of this program. But the program also rewards improved wildlife habitat, air quality, and environmentally responsible energy production.
