ED = Eddyville L = Lexington F = Farnam O = Overton S = Sumner E = Eustis Li = Lincoln El = Elwood One of the challenges cattlemen and 4-H'ers share is producing the type of animal that feeders, packers, and ultimately the consumer will want. The Feeder Calf Show at the 2009 Dawson County Fair provided a stage where the suitability of 4-H steer and heifer calves could be evaluated. SHOWMANSHIP Showmanship trophy winner in the Junior Division was Jace Russman (G). The Intermediate showmanship trophy went to Alex Boryca (C). The top showman in the senior division was Samantha Schneider (G). Other Showmanship results: Junior Division - Other Purples: Kennedy Berke (E), Kole Berke (E), Marcus Pieper (Li), Molly Pieper (Li), Alyssa Schneider (C), Broedy Metzler (F), Blaire Gibbens (G), Emily Keiser (G), and Madelyn Vogel (G). Class B (hip height 39.75 inches to 39.5 inches) - Purple: Samantha Schneider (C), Justin Hodgson (L), and Mollie Pieper (Li). Blue: Jake Rohde (ED), Kristian Seberger (L), Braydon Benjamin (L), and Markus Pieper (Li). Red: Tyler Block (C), and Patrick Peterson (G). Class C (hip height 39.25 inches - 38 inches) - Purple: Jake Rohde (ED), Leah Treffer (C), Madelyn Vogel (G), and Markus Pieper (Li). Blue: Dillon Margritz (L), Justin Hodgson (L), Alyssa Schneider (C), Evan Peterson (G), and Brandon Seberger (L). Red: Anthony Epp (L), Tanner Rowe (El), and Aaron Block (C). Class D (hip height 37.25 inches - 36 inches) - Purple: Samantha Schneider (C), Jace Russman (G), and Emily Keiser (G). Blue: Evan Peterson (G), Preston Stieb (L), and Gracie Stienike (G). GRAND & RESERVE CHAMPIONS After narrowing the fields down with a selection of the top two from each class going back for the final round, the judge named the grand and reserve champions. For the steer division, the Grand Champion belonged to Jace Russman of Gothenburg, and the Reserve belonged to Alex Boryca of Cozad. In the heifer division, Jace Russman of Gothenburg had the Grand Champion, while Mollie Pieper of Lincoln held the Reserve Champion. Over-all Grand Champion named belonged to Jace Russman and the Reserve Over-All to Mollie Pieper. PEN-OF-FIVE 100th Meridian 4-H Club #1 team (C) received top awards this year. The group received a purple ribbon and the club name will be engraved on a plaque. Purple ribbons also went to two groups from 100th Meridian 4-H Club #2 team (C), and Tail Twisters 4-H Club (G). Blue ribbons went to Horseshoe Bend team #1 and #2 (L), and also Sumner Livestock (S).
