Nova Scotia Agriculture in trouble
Published Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 04:56 AM
TRURO, N.S. _ Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture president Richard Melvin says primary agriculture is in crisis.< In his annual report he says operating margins are shrinking, debt loans are growing, farmers are getting older and there are now less of them.< He says it's all setting the stage for a virtual meltdown of the industry.< Melvin says the federation is trying to chart a course for a better future, while recognizing time is not on their side.< The sectors that are hurting the most are pork and beef.< The federation's annual two-day general meeting concludes today in Truro.<
