LINCOLN – The Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board has rescheduled their public meeting from Thursday, August 20, 2009 to Thursday, September 10, 2009. The meeting will convene at 8:30 AM at the Comfort Inn, 2903 Osborne Drive, Hastings, NE.
In addition to regular Board business, the meeting will include appointment to fill vacancies on the Board, election of officers, and naming of cooperator program representatives for the 2009-2010 Fiscal Year. Funding requests will be considered and reports will be provided on program activities in the areas of research, market development, producer education and federal legislation. Board Vacancies
Vacancies currently exist on the Board to represent Districts #4 and #6. District #4 includes the counties of Clay, Fillmore, Hamilton, York, and Seward. District #6 represents the 36 western Nebraska counties of Dawson, Dundy, Hitchcock, Red Willow, Furnas, Harlan, Franklin, Webster, Adams, Kearney, Phelps, Gosper, Frontier, Hayes, Chase, Perkins, Keith, Lincoln, Arthur, McPherson, Logan, Grant, Hooker, Thomas, Cherry, Kimball, Cheyenne, Deuel, Scotts Bluff, Banner, Morrill, Garden, Sioux, Box Butte, Sheridan and Dawes.
Sorghum producers wishing to be considered for nomination to fill the vacancy may submit a statement of interest to the Board prior to commencement of the public meeting on September 10, 2009. Statements may be in the form of a letter or resume outlining the candidate’s qualifications and interest to serve on the Board.
The Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board administers the one-cent per hundredweight check-off, which is assessed on all grain sorghum sold in the state. The board’s annual budget is allocated to the areas of research, market development, producer education and federal legislation.
