Education Updates
2009 National Youth Advisory CouncilThe education pages on NFU's website have recently been updated.
The 2009 scholarship application materials are now available. Those interested can download the forms to apply. Information about the 2008 scholarship winners is also now online.
NFU's interns are an integral part to the organization. The internship program provides a real world working experience for college students in either the Washington, D.C. or Denver office. The application materials are available to download.
Also, the 2008 curriculum, "Project Citizenship" is online and available for your use. The future of family farm agriculture depends heavily upon the civic involvement of the next generation and these materials provide students the opportunity to explore their responsibilities as leaders, advocates and citizens.

Members' Corner: Brooke White, Ohio State University Collegiate Farmers Union
Member Profile - Brooke WhiteA relative newcomer to Farmers Union, Brooke White of Jackson County, Ohio, is already the president of the Ohio State University Collegiate Farmers Union. The Agricultural and Extension Education major and Crop Science minor grew up in southern Ohio where her family has raised laying hens and hogs off and on for the past fourteen years.
Brooke has always been interested in everything that encompasses agriculture and growing up with livestock helped expose her to the industry. Last summer she had the opportunity to learn more about crops through an Early Field Experience internship at the Pike County Extension.

State News

Montana: MFU is sponsoring the last gubernatorial debate at its 93rd annual meeting and convention October 24 at the Heritage Inn in Great Falls. The debate will include Democrat Brian Schweitzer, Republican Roy Brown and Libertarian Stan Jones, who will respond to questions concerning agriculture in Montana. Great Falls Tribune Managing Editor Gary Moseman will moderate.
Wisconsin: WFU is set to celebrate World Rural Women's Day on October 15. The theme of this year's World Rural Women's Day is "Climate Change: Rural Women are Part of the Solution." The day, organized and supported by the International Federation of Agricultural Producers and the Women's World Summit Federation, provides women and their organizations with a focal point to:

1. Raise the profile of rural women; 2. Sensitize both the government and the public to their crucial, yet largely unrecognized roles; and 3. Promote action in their support, undertaken by rural and farming women in all parts of the world on the very same day, in the spirit of solidarity and cooperation that would strengthen the impact of the day.
This year's theme was chosen to raise awareness on the right to a healthy, balanced and sufficient food supply for all. WFU will be holding a women's conference November 7-8 at the Wisconsin Lions Camp near Stevens Point, Wis.
