NeFU information meetings to focus on wind and carbon
Published Wednesday, June 04, 2008 at 10:51 AM
Nebraska Farmers Union (NEFU), Nebraska Public Power (NPPD), The Nebraska Wind Working Group, and The Northeast Nebraska RC&D will be teaming up at the Raymond A. Whitwer Public Library in Tilden on Thursday, June 12th and at the Elgin Public High School Gym on Thursday, June 19th at 7:00 p.m. to give informational meetings on wind energy and The Carbon Credit Program.

NEFU President John K. Hansen, who is also Co-Chair of the Nebraska Wind Working Group will give a presentation on the different wind energy development models available to Nebraska, including the new Community-Based Energy Development (C-BED) model.

NPPD Renewable Energy Development Manager Dave Rich and NPPD Engineer John Richards will give updates on where NPPD is on wind energy development today and in the near future and will also address the issue of wind easement lease agreements. NPPD held groundbreakings for two new wind energy projects in April and recently announced that it will soon begin studying wind potential at ten new sites. The first seven to be studied include Elgin, Tilden, Verdigre, Brunswick, Greeley, North Platte, and Broken Bow. The other three will be announced before the end of the year.

Also on the program agenda is Public Affairs Director Graham Christensen. Christensen will be informing producers about the No-Till, Newly Seeded Grasses, and Rangeland Management Programs, the current enrollment pools and their deadlines, and the recent surge in the value of carbon.

The public is highly encouraged to attend this informational meeting. There will be lots of handouts and information available. For questions regarding the meeting you may contact Sandy Patton at the Antelope County Resource Center 402-887-4447 for the meeting in Elgin, Susan Fields with the Northeast Nebraska RC&D 402-368-5893 in Tilden, or the NEFU State Office.
