Donald E. Jones, age 87 of Gering, passed away Friday, January 29, 2010, at Heritage Estates in Gering. Memorial services will be held at 10:30AM, Wednesday, February 3rd, at Plymouth Congregational Church with Pastor Rod Wetzig officiating. Per Don's request there will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church. Don was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Minnesota to Elmer E. and Merle R. Jones. The family moved to Newton, Iowa where Don graduated from high school. Don served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in France during WWII. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Mettin in 1947 in North Platte, and to this union two children were born, Richard and Karen. In 1961 Don married Toni Hexum in Denver. Don was a business partner with Gilbaugh Insurance Agency in Gering for over 40 years, retiring in 1994. In 1999, Don married Shirley Green of Scottsbluff; they made their home in Gering. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, Masonic Lodge, Elks, American Legion and VFW. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; son, Richard Jones and wife Willa Foster Jones of Lincoln and daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Richard Sonderegger of Lincoln; step-daughter and husband, Pam and Emmett Formby of Las Vegas, Nev.; step-son and wife, Rod and Netta Green of Gering; grandchildren, Sean Jones; MiMi and Ken Harvey; Charity and Mark Cottle; Tasha Formby; A.J. Green; Keaton Green and Hayden Green and a great-grandson, Tanwin Cottle. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Harry and Ron and a grandson Chris Sonderegger.
