
Ruby B. Rhoades, age 93 of Scottsbluff, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Mitchell Care Center. Graveside services will be held at 10:30AM, Monday, February 8th, at Sunset Memorial Park, in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Marshall Smith officiating. Friends may visit from 1:00-6:00PM, Sunday, February 7th, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be sent to Prairie Haven Hospice. Ruby was born February 14, 1916, in Cabell, W. Va. Her parents were Stanley and Ida Burke. The family moved to Nebraska and Ruby grew up, attended school and graduated from Oshkosh. She went on to further her education and earned a Registered Nurse degree in Omaha in 1937. She was an OB nurse for 43 years. Ruby worked in St. Mary's Hospital, West Nebraska General Hospital and Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. She retired in 1980. Ruby married Cecil Rhoades in 1939. They made their home in Scottsbluff. From this union, they had four children. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting and cooking. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Ruby also enjoyed having her friends over for Tupperware or Sarah Coventry parties and playing pinochle. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Scottsbluff, Eagles Lodge and Elks Lodge. Survivors include her daughters Carol Grant of Scottsbluff and Karen (Dennis Parks) Sharp of Gering; son Bill (Brenda) Rhoades of Torrington, Wyo.; daughter-in-law, Pat Rhoades of Walnut Creek, Calif.; sister, Pat Steele of Casper,Wyo.; brother, George Burke of Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Cecil; son, Sid Rhoades who passed away in 1995; son-in-law, Don Grant; four sisters and two brothers.
