Steel Grill, Gering council at odds over SDL's
Steel Grill owner Lisa Weborg says she will be back before the Gering city council in two weeks to confirm she has a waiver from the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission that allows for a special designated liquor license for events at a building in back of her business.
The council Monday night refused to waive their ability to make a recommendation on Weborg's requests for SDL's regarding the building.
Weborg said the Commission indicated the building was too far away from her business to add it to her present liquor license and it would cost her up to $50,000 to meet requirements for a separate license for the building, She says she has already spent $20,000 bringing the building up to fire code.
Weborg said she asked the state for the waiver on special designated liquor licenses because of the time it took to request an SDL from the city, get it approved by council and forwarded to the Commission. Weborg says even with the state waiver she has to notify the commission ten days in advance of an alcohol related event in the back building.
Council members say Weborg needs to make her SDL request sooner so it can get on a council agenda in a timely manner and be forwarded to the commission for their approval.
