A Hemingford man died Tuesday evening in a three vehicle accident two miles north of Alliance on U.S. Highway 385. The Nebraska State Patrol identified the victim as 40 year old Jared King.

The State Patrol says King's southbound car struck the rear of a farm tractor being driven by 50 year old Roger Sorensen of Hemingford and then spun into the path of a northbound semi driven by 39 year old Carlos Martinez of Scottsbluff. Sorensen was not hurt and Martinez suffered minor injuries.

The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m.

In an earlier accident Tuesday, a 40 year old Bayard truck driver died when his semi rolled onto its side on a major highway in Elwood. The World-Herald News Service says Michael Thompson was driving his rig south on U.S. 283 early Tuesday morning when he lost control of it and the truck fell on its side, tearing away a power pole that removed the top part of the cab. Thompson was not wearing a seat belt according to the Nebraska State Patrol .

The accident closed the highway for some time Tuesday.
