A Scottsbluff man charged in the death of his three month old infant daughter will face trial in mid-January on a charge of child abuse resulting in death. Scotts Bluff County District Judge Randy Lippstreu Friday scheduled the trial for John Chavez for January 19th through the 25th.

Chavez is accused of being responsible in the April 20th death of Aubrey Chavez. An autopsy conducted on the Scottsbluff girl indicated she died of blunt force head injuries. Police responded after the mother Tammy Rood found the child unresponsive when she returned home from work. Chavez last month entered a no contest plea to possession of methamphetamine after evidence of drug activity was found in the family's apartment when Police wrere at the apartment. Sentencing is tentatively set for January 29th pending the outcome of the child abuse case.

Chavez is being held on a 10% of $200,000 cash bond
