Louden, Schilz win legislative seats; Bayard mayor ousted
Published Wednesday, November 05, 2008 at 01:46 AM

Incumbent state senator LeRoy Louden of Ellsworth and Ken Schilz of Ogallala handily defeated challengers to win state seats in the legislature Tuesday.

Schilz defeated Bernie Fehringer of Sidney and Louden beat Michael Jacobson. Bayard Mayor Lloyd Steele has been recalled. Bayard citizens voted Tuesday 266 to 219 to remove Steele from office. Citizens who brought the recall petition said Steele's "agenda" was not in the community's best interest, a charge Steele vehemently denied.

Ron Bentley, Scott Ouderkirk, Michelle Coolidge, and Nathan Edmunds were also voted to Bayard council positions. Bayard, Bridgeport, and Kimball were regional communities rejecting fluoride in their water.

Glenn Muhr, Barbara Cross and Jennifer Jackson appear to have seats on the Banner School board. Jim Ellicott, Leona Keener and Cleve Zimmerman won seats on the Sioux County school board. Lynn Vogel, Clinton Cornils and Jim Young gained seats on the Kimball School board. Annette Frerichs, Tate Rice, and Randy Eirich are unofficial winners for the Bayard school board.
