Faulty holiday decorations apparent cause of SB fire
Published Friday, November 20, 2009 at 05:18 PM

A Scottsbluff house fire Friday afternoon reminds local residents to use care when they begin putting up decorations during the holiday season.

Scottsbluff fire Chief Dana Miller says the fire at 2425 4th Avenue began in the living room as Larry and Linda Cushing were plugging in a fireplace decoration. Miller says there were sparks, apparently from faulty wiring in the decoration that caught other items on fire. Miller says Linda Cushing shut off the breaker they were able to get out of the house.

Miller says there was fire damage in the living room and significant smoke damage throughout the upper part of the home. An estimate has not been made yet on the damage from the fire.

Both the Scottsbluff and Gering fire departments responded to the fire.
