A former Gering mayor and the current vice-chair of the Scotts Bluff County Airport Authority is recovering at a Denver area hospital after suffering a stroke over the weekend.
Airport Authority Board Chair Don Overman says Bob Unzicker had been in the hospital due to a severe staph infection that had caused memory loss, but was improving until last Friday when doctors discovered a blot clot in his arm and then he had a stroke on Saturday morning. Overman says Unzicker underwent brain surgery following the stroke and was taken to University Hospital in Aurora earlier this week.
Overman says the stroke has caused some paralysis, but he is starting to get feeling now in some of those areas. Overman says Unzicker has been under sedation but they are starting to bring him out of it as he recovers.
