Shortly before 4:00 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2009, the Nebraska State Patrol responded to a report of a plane crash northeast of the community of Arthur. The Arthur County Sheriff’s Office reported the crash on the Allen Swanson property about 17 miles northeast of Arthur. Arthur is located in the sandhills north of Lake McConaughy. The property owner discovered the wreckage and called the Sheriff’s Office.
Killed in the crash was the plane’s pilot and sole occupant. He has been identified as 51-year-old Allen Peterson, of Tucson, Arizona. At the time of this death, Peterson was employed as a Trooper with the Arizona Highway Patrol. Indications are Peterson had been visiting family in Minnesota and was returning to Arizona when the crash occurred.
The Nebraska State Patrol, Arthur County Sheriff’s Office and the Arthur County Attorney responded to the scene. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will conduct the crash investigation.
