The renovation and the building of an addition to the Bluffs Middle School was not impacted by last week's snowstorm and officials say they are on target to have the building ready for students at the start of the school year next fall.
he Scottsbluff school district's facilities and maintenance supervisor Larry Davis says getting the existing building ready for renovation has been the focus of a lot of the work to this point. But Davis says the plan is to have the new gymnasium and the combined cafeteria and auditorium, the so-call "cafetorium", enclosed by the end of November so the inside work can be accomplished.
Davis says the temporary heat in the existing buildings came in handy last week during the cold snap. Davis says 60 of 210 wells for the geo-thermal heating and cooling system have been drilled and the wells should all be in place by November first, with the connections to the building complete two weeks after that. Davis say a sprinkler system will be installed on all floors.
Davis says while taking down the walls contractors found a wallet from 1957 and they are working to get ahold of the owner. They also discovered some murals off the old commons area and encourage anyone who can provide some information about them to give the school district a call.
