A memorial to honor fallen military personnel from western Nebraska who served in Iraq and Afghanistan will be placed on property around the Scotts Bluff County Administration building. Veteran Don Gable says the names of all who died from the eleven panhandle counties while serving in action in the two Mideast countries will be on the memorial.
Gable was pleased the Scotts Bluff County Board Monday night was supportive of placing the memorial on property surrounding the administration building. Gable and the county's Veterans Service officer John Brehm, who along with Julie Morrison and Lou Ann Herstead are spearheading the effort, will work with Operations Director Carol Prince on a specific location for the memorial.
Gable says he'll be working to get four corporate or individual donors to cover the $15,000 cost of the memorial. Other individual donations will help with maintenance, landscaping and any benches surrounding it. Gable says he'd like to dedicate the memorial November 5th or 6th so it's available for viewing a week later on Veterans Day.
A memorial for those who died in the Vietnam War is already located right behind the county administration building in an area known as Veterans Park.
