Clark hopes Kiewit grant spurs additional donations

Scottsbluff Library Board President Teresa Clark is hoping the $500,000 Peter Kiewit challenge grant received for the renovation and expansion of the library will generate additional donations. The grant is contingent on library supporters raising $4.1 million for the original design of the expansion. Clark says many other grant requests are outstanding, and feels the Kiewit grant may be instrumental in getting those grants.

With the addition of the Kiewit grant, the fundraising campaign for the library is at $1.2 million. The city of Scottsbluff will contribute another $1.5 million. Under requirements of the Kiewit grant Library supporters have another year to raise the additional $1.4 million.

Half of the Kiewit grant will be received when construction when the project is halfway done and the other half when the project is completed. Clark says they would like to start construction this fall.

The Library foundation will accept donations until completion of the project. The Library board plans to present a complete report to the city council in July. The addition will include a teen zone, enlarged children's collection area, computer lab and a heritage zone.
