Chadron Man has Additional Year Added On To Six Year Sentence
Published Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 09:59 AM

A Chadron man sentenced to 6 years in prison in December for ramming his estranged wife's van while two of their children were inside has been given another year for threatening her.

42-year old Teodoro "Ted" Ortiz pleaded guilty to attempted terroristic threats yesterday in a plea bargain that reduced the charge from a felony to a misdemeanor.

Ortiz was already in custody for the ramming incident when he threatened his wife at the end of a county court hearing on her request for a protection order.

Dawes County District Judge Brian Silverman ordered the new 1-year sentence to be served at the end of Ortiz's initial 6-year term, but did give him credit for the 61 days he's spent in jail since being sentenced on the first charges.
