The Scotts Bluff County Board Monday evening selected Helberg & Nuss Auctions and Realty to auction off the county's vacant former juvenile detention center. The Gering firm offered to sell the property for four percent of the auction price, the best offer among the local firms the county contacted about the project.
The commissioners decided last month to auction the property after they rejected a bid of slightly more than $30,000 received a year ago. The bid was far short of the $180,000 appraised value at the time. It has since been reappraised at a little more than $151,000.
The commissioners discussed setting a published minimum priice for the property, but elected to have the auctioneers determine a minimum and when the auction should be held.
