Scottsbluff to consider ADA study of major thoroughfares

Scottsbluff City Manager Rick Kuckkahn

The Scottsbluff city council Monday night will consider approving a proposal from M.C. Schaff and Associates to conduct a study of the city's major thoroughfares regarding compliance to the American Disabilities Act.

The council this past spring had been considering whether to move forward with a special assessment district to place sidewalks on Avenue I for handicapped accessibility. The city had even estimated the total cost of installing sidewalks on Avenue I from Railway to Highway 26 at $122,000 with the city bearing $44,000 of that, just a little more than a third of the total expense

Kuckkahn says the proposed study would assess whether Avenue I or other thoroughfares in the city should be the top priorities for ADA accessibility.

Kuckkahn says progressing on placing sidewalks on Avenue I is on hold until the council approves the proposed study and it determines which thoroughfares should be the priorities.
