Two men were hospitalized Saturdaynight after they were involved in a fight at Lake Minatare that resulted in felony charges being filed against one of them. 31 year old Jason Steele of Mitchell is charged with first degree assault, second degree assault, and use of a weapon to commit a felony after allegedly stabbing Robert French of Minatare in the chest with a pocket knife during the fight.

Scotts Bluff County Deputy Sheriff Jeff Chitwood says in the arrest affidavit that the two men got into a dispute at a lake campsite around 11:30 late Saturday night over alleged statements and actions French made to Steele's girlfriend. The men were shoving each other and both suffered significant burns after falling into a hot pot of oil. Chitwood said both men went into the water to cool off and Steele allegedly came out of the water and cut French across the chest.

French was taken to the hospital by friends, while Steele was taken by ambulance. Chitwood said French's cut was 25 cm long, stetched from just above his heart to his left ampit and took 30 stitches to close. Neither man was in the hospital directory late this afternoon. Steele is being held on 10% of $10,000 cash pending his preliminary hearing July 9th.
