Veterans Awareness conference held in Chadron
Published Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 02:07 PM

A Veterans Awareness Conference Tuesday organized and hosted by a Chadron State College class is being attended by more than 150 veterans, National Guard and active duty service members, college students, service providers and others..

The conference is intended to help veterans, potential veterans, and their families become aware of problems faced by veterans such as post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse and where to find help for those problems.

Peter Henry, the keynote speaker for the conference, has headed the VA Black Hills Health Care System since its creation 13 years ago through the administrative merging of the Fort Meade and Hot Springs VA Medical Centers.

Henry contends the VA has one of the best medical systems in the country... and THE best according to one author.

Henry thinks the VA can be a pattern or guide for parts of the current health care reform debate...offering real world examples of some proposals.

Governor Dave Heineman was scheduled to address the conference over the noon hour.
