United Way winner had no expectations; bought one duck

The winner of a new $36,000 2008 Chevrolet Silverado Truck says she bought only one duck in Saturday's United Way of Western Nebraska Duck Dash. As she received the keys today for the truck donated by Team Chevrolet, 20 year old Kasandra Arriaga of Scottsbluff said she had absolutely no expectation she would win.

Arriaga's duck was the first of 18,036 rubber ducks to cross the finish line Saturday. Arriaga says the whole thing is "unbelievable", noting the only thing she had ever won before was a battery operated car in a coloring contest when she was a child. Arriaga, who works at Len Tabor and Bill Peters law office, has a two year old son Angel. Arriaga says the truck will probably replace a much older Buick Century she is driving now.

Fifth grade Lincoln Heights teacher Jodi Lind picked up the keys to a Honda 4WD ATV donated by Sandberg. She purchased six ducks and said she plans to drive it to her parent's farm in the Cedar Canyon area south of Gering.
