Louden Waiting To See Who He Will Face In 49th District Race

The Associated Press has decided it was wrong and the Secretary of State's website was right last night in declaring which of two challengers will join 49th District State Senator LeRoy Louden on the November ballot, although the race is so close an automatic recount will be held that could change the outcome.

The AP had proclaimed Scot Bolinger as securing the second nomination by 9 votes over Michael Jacobsen of Gordon 576-567, but the Secretary of State had 124 more votes in its total and listed Jacobsen as topping Bolinger 591-585.

Either result would well within the margin that triggers an automatic recount after the official canvass of the election. By statute, the recount will be the fifth Wednesday after the election...making it June 11th.

Whether it's Jacobsen or Bolinger, Louden will be the big favorite heading into November. The 6-year veteran of the legislature nearlyed tripled their combined total with 2,989 votes.
