Chadron man charged in Box Butte accident
Published Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 09:15 AM
The Box Butte County Attorney's office has filed felony charges against a Chadron man concerning a vehicle/pedestrian accident four miles northwest of Alliance.

Court documents state 20-year-old Nicholas Mozes has been charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident and second degree assault -- both felonies -- as well as driving under the influence, driving under suspension, and minor in possession of alcohol. He remains in jail on a $30,000 bond.

Court records reveal that during the early morning hours of Saturday, November 21, Mozes allegedly left the scene of an injury accident without rendering aid. He allegedly caused injury to Stephanie Ruiz and Merissa Ruiz by hitting them with his vehicle. Stephanie Ruiz was hospitalized as a result of the accident.

A 17-year-old Scottsbluff boy, with alleged knowledge of the incident, has been charged with false reporting.

Box Butte County Sheriff Tammy Mowry says the two Ruiz girls were apparently fighting with other juveniles riding in Mozes' vehicle, and were hanging onto the side of the vehicle at the time the injuries occurred. She described the incident as "not your typical hit and run accident."

Mowry says that there was alcohol involved in the incident.

Mozes is scheduled to make his first appearance in Box Butte County Court on Thursday, December 3.
