Experts are confirming what some Nebraskans already suspected. State Climatologist Al Dutcher tells UNL's Market Journal that October 2009 was right up there with the coldest on record in Nebraska. Dutcher said it was the second-coldest October since the 1890's. Dutcher said last month will probably make the top 15 in terms of moisture. He said every 10 years or so a powerful snowstorm will strike in October, but it's unusual to have three in one month. A foot or more of snow fell in parts of western Nebraska last week. Dutcher said Friday that farmers should have good harvest weather with temperatures in the 50's to 70's for the next week. He said there is a chance of precipitation Sunday and Monday in some parts of the state. Dutcher says we can expect a storm late in the week.
