The Scotts Bluff County Housing Authority this morning hosted a ground breaking in Gering for the first "Greenbuild" house to be constructed by the agency's general contractor TQM. Housing Authority Executive Director Nancy Bentley says the house, to be located at 115 K Street in southeast Gering, will be one of eight such homes planned in the neighborhood.

Three additional lots in Gering have also been purchased for construction of similar homes, so eleven will be constructed in all. The 1,300 square foot homes will have three bedrooms, two baths, a double car garage and be built at a cost of $79 per square foot. The first home will be a model home so the Housing Authority can "firm up" costs before building the other homes. Bentley says they'd like to have the homes constructed and occupied by May of next year. The Department of Housing and Urban Development, USDA Rural development, Panhandle Community Services, and Nebraska Department of Economic Development are partners in the project.
