Alliance schools stay open despite absenteeism
Published Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 09:32 AM
The Alliance Public Schools is experiencing its share of absenteeism due to illness, but are no where close to closing school as the case was in Mitchell last month. Supt. of Schools Dan Hoseing says the district did see an increase in absenteeism earlier this week when about 25 percent of the district’s students were absent from the classrooms on Monday and Tuesday, but improvement was seen Wednesday.

Hoesing says, fortunately, the absentee rate among teachers and staff members has been very low. He says the school nurses are doing all they can to educate students on the importance hand washing and other measures to protect themselves from illness.

At the Alliance St. Agnes Academy Wednesday, roughly 25 children from its 160-member student body was absent.

Minatare had an increased number of absences earlier this week in their school district, but have continued to have school.
