A motion has been filed by the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District to consolidate separate suits filed against four other irrigation districts, including the North Platte Natural Resource District based out of Scottsbluff. Central says the legal actions should all be transferred to Lincoln County District Court in North Platte because it is a "central location."
Central filed the suits against the NRD's, challenging an integrated management plan approved by the districts and the state regarding appropriation of North Platte River water. Central claims the plan harms their interests.
The other NRD's that Central sued include the South Platte Natural Resource District based out of Sidney, the Tri-Basin Natural resource district based in Holdredge, and the Twin Platte Natural Resource District based in North Platte
Central says the consolidation should occur out of convenience, to conserve judicial resources, and because the different venues could result in differing results that would then have to be adjudicated.
