Investigation shows officer caused July 31st accident

The Nebraska State Patrol's initial investigation into a two vehicle accident July 31st at Lake Minatare Road and County Road 24 involving a Scottsbluff Police officer indicates the officer failed to obey a stop sign, causing the collision. Captain Kyle Otte says the initial report and the findings of an accident reconstruction team will be forwarded to the Scotts Bluff county Attorney's office.

The State Patrol says a southbound vehicle on County Road 24 driven by 31 year old Shawn McFarland of Scottsbluff, a Scottsbluff officer, collided with an eastbound car driven by 37 year old Lisa Gonzalaz of Bayard. Extrication equipment was used to help remove the three occupants in McFarland's car.

Six people, three from each car, were taken to Regional West Medical Center from the accident. All six were treated and released from the hospita.
