The Hot Springs, SD, Star says a Nebraska couple believed to have committed suicide earlier this month at their home in Lisco were the subject at the time of a police investigation into a series of bad checks in the Southern Black Hills.

The bodies of 39-year old Donald Osborn and 22-year old Elizabeth Osborn were discovered September 7th by Garden County sheriff's deputies making a welfare check requested by a member of the public.

No formal findings on the deaths have been released, but Garden County Attorney Phil Pierce has said preliminary autopsy results indicated the Osborn's died in a double shooting.

The newspaper says Hot Springs business owners discovered the couple was writing checks on a closed account while they were still buying items at several businesses August 27th.

The Osborns were taken into custody with the bad checks described as totalling over a thousand dollars.

Donald Osborn was also under investigation for writing bad checks in Garden County and in Custer County, South Dakota.

Osborn served 350 days in jail in 2006 for 3 counts of misdemeanor child abuse, which led to an investigation this summer when the couple's infant son...William "Willy" Silverhawk Osborn...died.

An autopsy was performed and the medical examiner listed the cause of death as SIDS...sudden infant death syndrome...the medical term used for the deaths of children under 1 year old that remain unexplained despite a thorough investigation..
