Ann James named Exec. Dir. for Riverside Discovery Center

The Riverside Discovery Center announced Friday that Ann James of Scottsbluff has been hired as Executive Director. This nwe position was created to oversee the entire operation of the RDC, it's staff, and all three entities, the Riverside Zoo, the Children's University, and Don Steen's Wildlife World.

James is no stranger to the Riverside Zoo or education. Currently the Outdoor Education Specialist at the Wildcat HIlls Nature Center, she has also been employed by ESU 13 and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Ann has served nine years as a zoo educational docent, and seven years as a volunteer Zoo Education Coordinator.

James says she has a great passion for seeing the vision of the RDC come to fruition, and will have some definate goals to reach within the first year. "I have great passion for seeing the vision of the Riverside Discovery Center come to fruition. The Center will be such a grand addition to our area for education, recreation and tourism," said James. "I would like to thank the Board of Directors for their confidence in me and extend a hand of partnership out to every business, family, and agency in the Panhandle to help make that vision come true. There is such potential with the RDC for great partnerships to benefit our entire area."

The Riverside Discovery Center is located at the Riverside Zoo in Scottsbluff, and plans are currently underway to include Wildlife World and a new Children's University within a new building at the zoo's entrance. It's hoped that construction on that building can begin as soon as a decision is finalized on which of two funding options will work best for them.
