Chadron man critical after assault
Published Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 01:00 PM
One Chadron man is in critical condition at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff and another is in jail following an incident early this (Tuesday) morning at a Chadron residence.

Police Chief Tim Lordino says officers are still interviewing witnesses, and he won't reveal until tomorrow whether the wounds suffered by 21-year old Tony Hessler were caused by a knife or a gun.

31-year-old James Griffin is being held on charges of 1st degree assault and use of a weapon in the commission of a felony, but Lordino says additional charges may well be filed after the investigation is complete.

Chadron police responded to a call from a woman about an assault involving a weapon at Griffin's home on the west side of Chadron and found the wounded Hessler lying on the floor.

The Chadron Rescue squad took Hessler to Chadron Community Hospital for initial treatment, then he was flown by Flight for Life to Regional West.
