Explosion destroys garage in rural Minatare
Published Monday, June 29, 2009 at 06:31 PM
An explosion of gas cans, aerosol spray cans and small propane cylinders caused an estimated ten to fifteen thousand dollars damage to a garage in rural Minatare. The explosion occurred five and a half miles north of Minatare on Stonegate Road near County Road J around 8:30 Sunday evening.

Minatare Chief of Police Robert Regester (Ree-ges-ter), who's also a volunteer with the Minatare-Melbeta Fire Department, says the explosions sounded and looked like 4th of July according to neighbors.

Fire crews fought the fire for approximately 15 minutes and then continued with mop-up for 2 hours.

The explosion was confined to the detached garage, which along with the contents was a total loss. The resident, Harold Hoffman, had just finished using his riding mower and had parked it near the propane tanks, but the cause of the fire is still being investigated by Deputy State Fire Marshall Dana Reece of Sidney.
