Woman jailed in Garden County stabbing of pregnant girl
Published Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 11:30 AM

A 25 year old illegal immigrant is in the Garden County jail on suspicion of first degree assault after allegedly stabbing a juvenile girl last Saturday evening at a home near Lisco. Garden County Attorney Phil Pierce says Maria Del Pilar Chavez-Lugo is accused of stabbing the pregnant girl four times during a dispute that occurred around 5:30 Saturday evening.

Pierce says the unidentified victim, who remains at Regional West Medical Center, lost the unborn child and upgraded charges including manslaughter or homicide of an unborn child are possible. Pierce says the girl, who reportedly has local ties, had been stabbed in the abdomen, face, leg and arm.

Pierce says the Garden County Sheriff's office is still investigating the motive behind the incident. He says the two women lived in the same home and the victim's boyfriend is the suspect's brother.
