Onion load overturns on I-80 near Lodgepole
Published Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 03:30 PM
A semi load of onions overturned onto I-80 near Lodgepole early Monday morning. The accident occurred around 4:20 a.m. when a semi tractor pulling a flatbed trailer was eastbound and drifted into the median. The driver over corrected and caused the trailer to tip over on its left side in the median. The semi remained upright and stopped in the passing lane of westbound traffic. The passing lane around the scene was barricaded for more than 5 hours, but the interstate remained open.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the driver of the vehicle, owned by Falcon Transportation, Inc. of Folsom, California was not injured in the accident. The driver was transporting the onions to Philadelphia. Filsinger Excavating Co Inc of Sidney was called to the scene to separate the truck from the flatbed trailer, put the trailer back on its wheels and reload the onions on the trailer. The flatbed trailer carrying 1,155 bags of onions remained intact on 21 pallets.
