I-25 and I-80 now open in Wyoming

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) _ Some highways are starting to reopen in eastern Wyoming this afternoon (Tuesday).

Most of Interstate 25 and all of I-80 are open after being closed by Monday's blizzard. However, I-90 remains closed between Gillette and the South Dakota border.

The snow has ended in most places but strong winds are still keeping some roads and highways in eastern and central Wyoming closed.

In extreme northeast Wyoming, road and rescue crews worked to reach a family stranded on U.S. 212. The family of two adults and a child were in contact with authorities and doing fine, but plows were having a tough time cutting through the heavy snow drifts.

Elsewhere, some 150 travelers were stranded Tuesday morning in shelters in Wheatland and Glendo. And about 30 residents of a nursing home in Guernsey were moved to a shelter because power outages had left them without heat.

A spring blizzard dumped up to 20 inches of snow in parts of the state Monday, closing schools, government offices and businesses and interrupting power.
